One Step – Intuitive Dial Retention System

The Dial system retention system is so light and easy to use that it pretty much makes heavier more cumbersome Velcro straps redundant.

Small and Large tension adjustments can be done on the fly quickly with One-Step Dial system and it’s totally intuitive to use, a clockwise turn activates the internal ratchets and with little as 10degrees of rotational movement the dial system will begin to pull in the extremely strong woven nylon cord in small progressive amounts with each precise click.

The material that this winding-cable is made from is derived from the sailing industry so even know it looks thin it is also impossibly strong, several times stronger than a normal shoe lace with amazing wear characteristics.

The ultra-compact anchor/turnaround locations for the zig-zagging closure are made from strong high strength nylon plastic, the diminutive size of the buckles allows them to integrate into the shoes construction seamlessly. The material that they are made from is strong and slippery so interfaces well with the woven cord material to felicitate easy movement under tension, the cord is also snap-fits into these anchor locations, so it cannot pop out accidently.

The end result of this style tension systemhas more seamless integration and improved comfort in a area that encounters high stress from the pull up cycle of the pedal stroke. Improved fit and comfort also helps with improving your cadence action.

If you haven’t had a dial system before they are very easy to back off the tension, with The Big Ring systemturn the dial anti-clockwise, this disengages the ratchet system and the crisscrossing tension of the woven cord backs-off,at this stage the system is unlocked. This gives you the option of pulling on the woven nylon cord at the top of the shoe to release the tension fully to take the shoes off or just a small clockwise turn will re-engage the system again, this can be particularly beneficial if you wanted to unload some extra tension that you might havejust applied for spirited sprint or hill climb. (impossible to do this with a lace system and much harder to do with a Velcro system with any sort of controlled modulation while riding).

Ventilation

Typically, in the market place cycling shoes there are a lot of options for shoes that have little to no ventilation, on hot day your feet can swell so keeping them cool will help more than you realize.Reducing the weight and improving the ventilation shoes was the key design idea and it makes these Big Ring Kit-One shoes significantly more comfortable in hot conditions.

We achieved additional cooling by using a lightweight synthetic leather and incorporating 5 large meshed vent holes on each side of the shoe, the shoe internally is layered with padded mesh fabric this gives additional comfort and strength to the shoe but also gives a layer that sweat can be suspended in allowing it to evaporate away. For cold conditions, warmer socks or booties will keep the cold at bay.

Graphic

We use some of the highest quality inks that money can buy for extra durability, UV stability and vibrant colours for our bespoke limited production matching graphic creations. To get maximum impact from your shoe choice match them up with the match High-Compression Kit-One socks.

High Modulus Carbon Sole

The high modulus Carbon Composite sole is beautifully tailored with progressively tapered edges removing excess weight where it’s not needed and adding some feel to the shoe, the sole progressive ramps up thickness aggressively around the cleat area to be almost 10mm thick and has two central ribs branching back-off the cleat area to under the heel, to ensure the centre beam of the shoe is incredibly stiff under pedal load while not carrying any unneeded bulk anywhere else.

This thick centre cleat area gives good depth for the 3 recessed threaded bolt holes, so you get good thread purchase which will lessen the chance of bolts pulling throughfrom overnighting the cleat bolts or you should not get a problem with cleat bolts being too long and coming through to the foot bed area. In our experience, some brands have gone to thin now and it causes reliability and fitting problems when bolting the cleats in place.

Lightweight

At a feathery 375grams for a pair of size 42 shoes, makes us about 75grams lighter than a Pair of Rapha lightweight climbing cycling shoes and we are significantly cheaper. Lightweight shoes not only adds to you comfort but it improves performance, less weight to carry, less weight to spin, less weight to accelerate on every ride.

Mounting of Cleats

Three threaded bolt locations in the standard triangular bolt pattern as used by all the major shoe and cleat/pedal companies:  LOOK, Shimano, Time, Campagnolo and Speedplay with correct plateare all accepted easily. Follow the fitting advise from your respective pedal companies when fitting cleats, make sure you grease the cleat bolts before fitment.

Ordering

The Big Ring Kit-One Lightweight Racing shoe will generally be part of custom made to order program with 8-week lead times, this keeps the cost down for thelimited release production numbers.

We will have some plainer graphic shoes that will be far less exclusive, these will be warehoused in limited quantities, these will be priced $299.00 Aud – custom Matching-Kit options are $399.00 Aud.

Please take care when ordering the Custom Graphic Shoes with 8week lead time because they are hand-made to your-order, we don’t have a return policy for wrong size or unhappy with cosmetic/graphic look of the shoe for these special order items.

Please look at the shoe fitting advice within the size chart carefully the information provide is accurate and will take the guess work out getting the sizing right.

Sizing

Follow the Size chart recommendations below – The EU sizing is accurate, and the width is medium
For a secondary check – you can check the size of your foot against the foot form measurements (see the size chart below for detailed information – red text) this give you length of solid foot form that the shoe has be shaped around in the hand building process.
Just to reaffirm – The EU sizing is accurate, and the width is medium
Another size check method is you can even print off the pdf ofinner sole size that is applicable to you (print at 100% actual size) then step on it and double check that they will be Ok – It’s that simple. The full range of inner sole sizes are available to download from our web-site so you can print off at home
If you have narrow foot they should be still be fine – If you have a Wide foot they maybe too narrow for you but standing the inner sole print out should give you some idea of how close they will be.

Shoe Fitting Advice 

Most riders have found the The Big Ring  Euro shoe sizing very accurate if you are normally a 42 you should be a 42 here as well, personally I have had Shimano and Northwave shoes in the past and I have been size 42 in those brands too. In regard’s to the width a size 42 The Big Ring Kit One Racing shoe has the same internal width at the widest point as Shimano and Northwave the width could be called a medium width.
Additional Fitting Advice
If you need extra reassurance on your sizing read on – we have a secondary check, you can use a flexible measuring tape to measure your foot in inches or centimetres.
Measure your foot with no weight on it.

The measurements listed above are in Metric and Imperial – Sit down, cross your legs lift you right foot up so it rests on top of your left knee, then use a flexible measuring tape to measure the underside of your foot from the centre end of your big toe the finish length at the back of your heel (no need to wrap around the back curve of you heel). This will compare your personal foot length tohard plastic factory foot form that the shoe is sized around.

Please keep your toes in a neutral position not bent back as this will increase the length of the measurement, if you are finding it hard to keep your toes in the correct position, the correct position is as they would be in the cycling shoe that has no flexibility and keeps your toes straight. Repeat the process for the left foot, sometimes we have one foot bigger than the other, size to the biggest foot.

Sizing note: we can generally have smaller size in cycling shoes when compared to walking shoes as we don’t flex our feet by the bending of the toe section of our foot when we cycle, when your toes flex it increases the need for extra length inside the shoe, with a quality cycling shoe you can’t really flex your toes at all because of the stiff carbon sole.

Under body weight your foot increases in length about 5mm,  the shoes are made using euro sized “Foot Forms” they are hard plastic and don’t change size with bodyweight, the measurements above are for the length of the “Foot Forms” that the shoes are sized around, this gives you an extra 5mm compared to a human foot as it turns out so don’t make that extra 5mm that your foot expands as part of your fitting equation. As a gauge using the measurement process described above I personally measure 26cm on the Right and 26.4cm on the left and the size 42 Euro shoe is perfect fit for me and in the past Shimano and Northwave shoes sized 42 where good for me.
Use Note : When you get your new shoes they are for cycling – not walking! limit the time walking in them, as it puts a lot of stress on them, if you do need to walk in them walk like a duck heel first and try not to flex the foot.

Lightweight Carbon Racing ShoeWarranty

The Big Ring has well established quality manufacturing standards and it is always our intent to deliver best possible high-quality product to market, but unfortunately on rare occasions a fault may occur.

If you believe your product is faulty, please contact us at warranty@bigring-cycling.comwith detailed photos and descriptions of the fault. The Big Ring reserves the right to repair the product if possible.

Shoes are Guaranteed for 1 year from the date of purchase against manufacturer defects, workmanship and faulty materials. However, the guarantee does not apply to normal wear and tear and products that have been misused or hardware that has been improperly installed or maintained.

Documentation showing purchase date and pictures of the defect are required.

All Warranty claims are subject to approval by The Big Ring. If warranty is granted The Big Ring will decide to either replace of repair the shoes.

The Big Ring is only responsible for product that we directly sell to you, if you have purchased through distributor or retail outlet other than The Big Ring you take back to your original place of purchase with relevant proof of purchase details.

Shoe Care &Maintenance

Shoes should not be kept in a wet condition, they should be allowed to dry out at room temperature over a suitable period of time, putting shoes in any heating device, or in-front of heating device is not recommended.

Stuffing the shoe with dry News Paper or Paper Towel Can speed up the process

Leaving in the shoes in the Sun for long periods will cause the graphic to fade prematurely.

Wash carefully in this style Wash by gentle dunking in a bucket of warm water, not fully submerging the shoes is best and wiping with soft sponge is recommend for cleaning the surface of the shoes than allow to dry out at room temperature.

The cleat bolts should be well greased before fitment otherwise corrosion will set in and the bolts may become impossible to remove.

Like most things a quick wipe down with a damp cloth only using water after every ride will keep them looking good and also extend the time between when a more concentrated wash is required .
